Join Zen Teacher and scholar, Taigen Leighton for a four-week telecourse,The Awesome Presence of Active Buddhas will study highlights of Dogen’s Shobogenzo essay Gyobutsu Igi, “The Awesome Presence (or Dignified Manner) of Active Buddhas.”
Though not yet well-known in Western Dogen studies, this substantial essay by the prolific Japanese 13th-century founder of Soto Zen describes the qualities and nature of actual, active, practicing buddhas in the world. It includes many colorful images and aspects of true practice, including the necessity for buddhas of going beyond buddha, buddhas not waiting for enlightenment, buddhas’ transformative function, the importance of making mistakes, the art of letting go, the reality that buddhas abide in flames when they teach, and how buddhas listen to the teaching as well as offering it.
The class meets for four consecutive Saturdays, July 7, 14, 21, & 28 at 9:00 am MT via the Zoom conference platform.
